Curriculum

At Hunting Park Christian Academy our teachers utilize curricula that is specifically structured to help our students achieve to their optimal ability.

“Foundations and Frameworks” is the reading program we use with our students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade. This program, developed by Briarwood Christian School in Alabama, focuses on the “five crucial areas of reading as identified by the National Reading Panel in 2000: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension.” Through the use of high-quality literature, small group interaction, visual tools, and the modeling and practicing of thinking skills, we are confident that our students will have the best possible opportunity to excel in this area.

“Responsive Classroom” is a tested and proven curricula that focuses on “helping children build academic and social-emotional competencies.” Developed by classroom teachers in 1981, this program has been shown to foster increased student engagement, academic progress, and fewer discipline problems. This holistic approach to fostering both social and academic progress is essential for the development of our students as both scholars and community members and will be utilized by our teachers in all grade levels.

If you would like further information on either curricula you may view the website of each respective program by clicking on either of the links in our "links" tab on the left hand side of this page.
